MOTIVATION: MYB to go. 

Just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean you should drop your MYB plans. Even on the go you need those sweat sessions more than ever. It’s not only a great way to see the city you’re in, but it’s a great way to experience a different kind of MYB. Even if you’re just walking around a little extra, make that MYB time a majority.

MYB mayMADESS* workout #1 of 20: soccer.

From ages 8-20, soccer ruled my life. I played year round in North Carolina growing up, traveled the entire state for games, and played some in college (though took a sharp left turn when I discovered a hip hop dance troupe and dove head first into that - you can never predict these things!). But Mike (leBF) and I try to find all kinds of ways to get our MYB on (soccer is to me as football was for him growing up). Sometimes the gym just doesn’t do it for this guy, so we change it up between weights, basketball, soccer, football — and yes, sometimes even bowling. Lucky for us, there is both a park AND a bowling alley (actually 2) right near our apartment.
Anyway! Workout #1 of 20 was completed playing a friendly game of soccer (some thrown elbows and all). 19 more to go!! High-res

Look, workouts don’t have to totally suck. It doesn’t have to be some chore that you “have” to do that you hate and dread. There are already enough hate/dread things in life as it is. But the thing is we DO have to do some fort of fitness something—and lucky for us, today’s world offers a never-ending list of workout “somethings” we can do. Try all kinds of workouts, classes and practices! Ask your friends what they do and tag along. Go try something together. Walk home together from work. Go to some class that totally terrifies you all by yourself and no one will ever know how foolish it made you look (and/or how much fun you had!).
Truth is, chances are you’re not going to find a fresh 14 hours in a week to dedicate to fitness. (Unless you fall into the small percentage of ultra athletes and/or total lifeless couch potatoes—it’s a very thin line.) So finding a way to seamlessly incorporate those workouts into your life is important. After all, they don’t make cute workout clothes that can be worn straight to brunch for nothing, people! If we were all thong-leotarded up still that would be a whole other story. You have no excuse. Your life depends on it. The least we can all do is make it fun, right?

You’ve got today and tomorrow to give it everything you’ve got! Right now you could hit the ground and bust out some pushups and situps, go out for a super quick run, hit the gym for a power weighlifting session or swap those dinner plans for a yoga class + dinner. Take a walk with a friend in the spring weather. Walk home from where you are now instead of taking the subway. Whatever it is, you CAN do it. If your mind wants to, your body will follow. HIT YOUR GOAL! You’re ALMOST THERE!!

Big goals help us focus on what we want to achieve. We have a vision of what we want. We can feel it. Taste it. But far too often we only focus on how it will feel to have, be, achieve, do. In between is the hard work we do each and every day to achieve that goal. That will be the taste in your mouth when you cross that finish line. It won’t be accomplished any other way. So continue that hard work. And as you earn the taste of sweet success day in and day out, soon enough, you’ll crave the taste of that hard work instead of the fantasy of the goal itself. Hard work is the only way. Embrace it.

MOTIVATION: anywhere/anytime.

A “workout” can truly be anything. Sure a clearly defined gym visit or run, yoga class or cycling session is great. But get creative! A know that an MYB lifestyle embraces it all! Literally, everything counts. I’m talking taking the stairs and instead of the elevator or escalator. Walking home instead of taking the subway or driving. Biking or running between your errands. Carrying you groceries home by hand instead of driving. Rearranging furniture! A super quick mini sweat session between your busy schedule. Lunges between where you are and where you gave to go. Maybe don’t go lunging around your office. But if you’re there late night, don’t be afraid to bust out some push ups or yoga in your office. Traveling on a plane? Get some stretches in.

No matter what you do or where, it’s great for both mind and body. You don’t have to be in full head-to-toe dri-fit or in the confines of a gym to get your MYB on. Instead, see the world as your “gym” and see how you can up your heartbeat in all kinds of ways wherever you are.

Why waste time on something you hate?! Besides, if you hate it, the truth is you simply won’t do it and you’ll quickly find yourself right back on the couch where you started. True story.
