“As runners we are pretty adept at changing our pace, alternating our route, and overcoming obstacles. We train ourselves, literally, to find some sort of comfort in the midst of our discomfort. Our training serves us well in every area of our lives.”
Kristie Cranford, Runner’s World Challenger of the Week
“My head gets in the way sometimes: I latch onto something (an ache, feeling tired, etc.) and can’t stop focusing on it. In those moments I have to literally force myself to think of something else - a mantra that makes me feel strong, a good song that transports me to a moment in time or that I can sing, a cute guy passing me on the path. Any one of these will usually get my mind in a better place so I can finish the run. Sometimes I play the grateful game - notice the beautiful scenery and thank the universe that I am healthy enough to get up and run today without issue. Not everyone has that luxury.”
LeeAnn Webster, Runner’s World Challenger
