MOTIVATION: sweat out the stress.
Stress. We hold onto it. We let it grip onto us. We freak out. We get pissed.
Better yet, release it so stress doesn’t stand a chance on you.
Best way to do that? Get your workout on.
Channel all that raw emotion into a workout. Maybe it sounds cheesy. But punching a wall sounds ridiculous, too. Spare your knuckles. Get your sweat on. Have the best, hardest run of your life. Get out of the house and speed around on your bike. End your work day with a kickass in the zone dripping with sweat cycling class, hot yoga class, kickboxing class, whatever kind of class you want!!
Let the stress and outside negativity seep out of your pores. Sweat it out. Release it. And it won’t have any control over you.
Sweat out the stress.

MOTIVATION: running heals.
This is my dad, Steve. He ran a steady 2 miles every day of my childhood as long as I can remember. As a kid, I joined him on my bike or roller skates. There was no better way to spend father-daughter time. Eventually I began running, too. And haven’t stopped since. However, recently Dad has stopped. Mom died of cancer and MS five years ago. We’ve all been struggling to get back on our feet as a family ever since. One of the main ways I’ve been able to stay standing is through the power of running and my daily SWEATsessions. And all that is thanks to Dad. He showed me the super power within that is running way back when I was a kid. But now he needs to rediscover his own super power within. He’s been walking somewhat regularly, which is awesome—but deep down he’s been missing running. You can see it on his face. You can see it in his body. But he doubts himself—as we all do before an intimidating run.
But today Dad ran a mile. Today Dad found his legs again. He was “shocked” that his legs hadn’t “forgotten” how to run. I told him, “Maybe it wasn’t your legs that forgot. Maybe it was your mind that needed reminding.” My dad’s life may very well depend on whether or not he can find his legs again. We’re going to try to run again tomorrow. Because that smile can only come after a great and triumphant run. Nice work, Dad!
The power of running knows no bounds. How has running healed you?

MOTIVATION: you can go further than you think.
Just try. One more mile. Ten more minutes. Five more reps. One more sprint. Maybe two. Just try. Your body will prove your head’s self-doubt wrong. Your heart knew all along. But you have to try. You’re stronger than you think. You’re tougher than you think. You’re more resilient than you think. You will succeed. But you have to try. And keep trying. And keep trying. You will succeed. But only if you try.

MOTIVATION: discover your WRKout style.
If you’re a runner, gym rat, yogi or or cyclist, you know what it means to find a workout you LOVE and just can’t get enough.
If you’re slogging through your workouts and hating it - the simple truth is you’re doing it wrong. Change it up. Find your style.
Lucky for us we don’t live it the 80s-tastic world of aerobics and thong leotards where the only options are either take a jog in your Nike “trainers” or join Jane Fonda in her leg-warmer-wearing high kicks!
We live in a currently fat, yet fitness obsessed society where there are, quite literally, at least 5 different kinds of workout options in a 10 block radius.
If you want to punch things there are at least 10 different types of gyms where you can do that in different styles. If you cant to dance around, there’s Zumba, hip hop aerobics, strip-aerobics, salsa dancing, the list goes on. Want to workout in your own home? Here’s PX90 and Insanity. Want to lift weights? Here’s CrossFit and 45 different CrossFit takeoffs you can do. Want to run? Long distance? Short distance? Track and sprint? Want to get zen? There’s hot yoga, fast yoga, breathing yoga, strength and power yoga. Want to join a team? Kickball? Dodgeball? Soccer? Pick up bball or football?
Boom, they all exist. All we have to do is try them out and pick one. Or pick five. Whichever.
In today’s world, there is absolutely no reason to do a workout you hate. Life’s too short. But the thing is, your life depends on it. #moveyourbooty

CONGRATS Siobhan and Tamara!
Rockstar sisters who crushed their race this weekend!
Congrats all racers! What race is up next??
MOTIVATION: wake & workout.
What’s 45 minutes of snoozing really do for you?
You get some extra zzzs, probably have a weird dream and wake up all tired eyed and bleary.
What’s 45 minutes of working out do for you?
Wakes up your muscles, clears your mind, sweats out yesterday’s toxins, ups your confidence, calms your body consciousness, tightens up your muscles and fills your body with Vitamin D.
Point goes to the workout. Sorry, snooze. You’re just not worth it.
You’ll always regret that snooze. You’ll never regret that workout.
Now that you’ve conquered a morning workout, the rest of the day is easy…

MOTIVATION: running free.
The beauty of running technology is that it frees you from a plan. You can click on the GPS and just run. Whether for time or distance, you can just hit the road, explore, find your way, turn around when you want or even keep it going for another few miles.
I had one of these runs while visiting Asheville this weekend. Took off in a general direction I knew but went off route when I crossed a road caled Riverside View. Hoping it would live up to its name I took it. What I didn’t account for was the mountain it ran up. But the view was gorgeous and the hills kicked up the heat. Looping through parks, train tracks, neighborhoods and winding mountain roads, the run flew by.
Explore your area with your run and with a trusty GPS (and safe caution) get off the beaten path!

MOTIVATION: taking on your very first half marathon.
“I’m not a runner.” ”I could never run that far.” ”You couldn’t pay me enough to do that!”
Ever say anything like this when someone brings up the idea of running a long distance race? You’re not alone. But people everywhere are taking on these kinds of mega-goals every weekend! This weekend in New Jersey, one Shailin proved that she was a runner—and not just a runner, but a half marathon finisher! She writes about her first running experience below and proves that accountability and setting a goal, like signing up for a race, pushes you through the tough training days all the way to race day! Congrats Shailin (pictured front row, left) and all her fellow runners!! HUGE accomplishment!!
via Shailin:
“A few months ago while searching the web I decided that I was signing up for the New Jersey half Marathon. Immediately after I went through with this idea I contacted my 3 cousins and begged them to join me. Since we are all related and share the same amount of craziness they agreed. I began training in January and never thought I could actually do it. I always figured I would chicken out and not participate once race day came about. However, since my cousins were also training it made it easier. Seeing their accomplishments and hearing what they were able to do made me push myself. Take one mile at a time we told each other and that’s exactly what we did. I never ran before starting my training but each week I added another mile onto my long run and before I knew it I was running ten miles at a time.
When race day came I was extremely nervous but we all got up extra early so we could go together. We read motivational quotes and listened to my dads words of wisdom from his past marathon days. The race was tough but I knew I could do it, I knew we all could do it. Needless to say I finished (a lot longer that I planned, but I FINISHED) I’ve never smiled bigger than I did crossing that finish line. I was pleasantly surprised in myself and I recommend the challenge to all.”
MOTIVATION: streets of philadelphia.
Well, just one street. Broad street!! Philly proved, yet again, that it truly is the City of Brotherly Love as tons of people came out to cheer us on through 10 miles! Tons of high-fives, cheering volunteers, awesome bands (drumlines rock!) and of course, Rocky music along the way. Though if they could blast Eye of the Tiger for the last mile, runners would set PRs left and right. Only downside was the overcrowding as this was the race’s biggest year yet. Probably shouldn’t be as big as the race never really spread out—especially at the end.
I was surprised by my 8:30ish pace that kept up as the miles kept ticking past, so I figured keep going!! My body wanted to push it and so we did! Six miles whizzed past and when there were only 4 miles, 3, 2, I started to feel it. But I kept telling myself to just find a steady pace and keep at it. This was not the time to stop!! Finally we entered the Navy Yard and found the finish!! A final kick to the end! Philly pretzels for everyone!!
My sister, Dara (pictured above sporting the headband) rocked her race at 1:40, her super fast boyfriend came in at 1:17 and I grabbed 1:26 in mostly negative splits!
Nice work everyone!!
