MOTIVATION: inside out fitness.

Great fitness and health starts from the inside out.
Your mind is possibly the most important muscle you’ve got. Strengthen your mind and your body will follow. Ignore the needs of a tired, stressed and anxious mind and your body feels the consequences big time.
Same goes with food and nutrition. Feed your body crap, and that’s exactly how you’ll feel. Like crap. Eat like that and it shouldn’t be a mystery why you’re struggling to have the energy you need to work out. But feed your body nutritious and real fresh foods and you’ll have what you need to meet your fitness goals.
It starts on the inside. Get fit inside out. High-res

MOTIVATION: make it yours.

Your SWEATsession is yours. Make it exactly what you need. Your workout doesn’t have to be like anyone else’s. It doesn’t have to fit inside a gym, be an official workout class or even executed in spandex and a sports bra. It can be anything! If you need something quick and powerful, run a fast couple miles or bang out some push ups, burpees and squats. If you need something restorative and stretchy, do a few yoga moves to set your mind and muscles right. A “good” workout is whatever you make it. It might be different from what you did yesterday or what you’ll do tomorrow. What’s important is that you do it. And that it serves you well. Make it yours. High-res

MOTIVATION: strength.

Strength isn’t just about lifting weights. Pushing through a tough workout isn’t just about accomplishing that workout. It’s bigger than that. When we push ourselves to endure more and more in each workout, we’re training ourselves for life. Getting to the end of that super tough cycling class is about more than making it the full 60 minutes without stopping. Training for a race is about more than race day. Biking to the top of the mountain is about more than just that bike and that mountain.
The stronger we get on the trail, in the gym, on the treadmill, on the bike, on the yoga mat, the stronger we are outside that arena, inside and out. Strength isn’t just about muscles. It’s about our minds and momentum. It’s not just strength in body. It’s strength in everything.

MOTIVATION: stay positive.
I mean, you can get gnarly with it and just be pissed all the time. Most of us have plenty of ammunition behind that train if we so choose. But if tough shit in life is already driving you down, why join that pity party? You might stop by every once in a while, that’s normal and to be expected. But it’s in those very worst of times when you need that positive, sun-is-shining, look-on-the-bright-side, there’s-gotta-be-a-silver-lining-in-there-somewhere kind of outlook more than ever. Cheesy never hurt nobody. Bitterness on the other hand…
Stay positive. Because being negative is too easy.  High-res

MOTIVATION: strength.
The reasons we workout are varied. Amid calories, weight loss, and the ever-elusive “skinny,” strength gets lost in the bunch. But it’s that strength that will drive us closer to our goals, whatever they may be. Toned strong muscles make us better and more fit while strengthening our bones and protecting our bodies as well. Not to mention our minds. The stronger we are in both mind and body, the more strength we have to take on life itself. A toned body trumps a thin, weak body any day in my book! So keep that in mind as you push through your daily workouts and keep strong!

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.

Eleanor Roosevelt

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

MOTIVATION: unknown territory.
They say you’ll never do something you’ve never done unless you go somewhere you’ve never been. One mile past the most miles you ever run. One workout class you’ve been too afraid to try. A cycling route you’ve always been intimidated by. One rep than you did the last set. Even the smallest step past your previously determined boundaries and you’ll find someone you’ve never met. A fresh side of yourself you’ve yet to see. When we stay safely behind our limits, the view never changes. And how do we know what we can be if we don’t test ourselves?
Sure it can be scary. There can be growing pains and hard times. But through the toughest of times we can find the best in ourselves. Find a sort of comfort in your fears when you embrace the idea that it’s okay to try something that’s unknown. It’s okay to stumble along the way. It’s okay to not be the best at something new. Let go of all that. And push yourself to try it anyway. Perhaps who we really are is waiting just over that line…

MOTIVATION: do something. any way. any how.
MIGHTYmarch: day #19

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Some days you have amazing, life-changing, wow-worthy workouts where you’re contemplating whether or not it’s too late to try out for the London Olympics. Other days you feel like crap. It happens.
You go to the gym and just never find your pace. You can’t get moving. Can’t get in the zone.
But you got there. You showed up. You gave it a shot.
Sure, this is no way to workout for a week straight. But if one day you can’t get yourself to that hour bootcamp class and instead you hop the bike for 30 minutes or lift weights to break out a quick sweat, nice work! It’s better than nothing.
Maybe that mini workout is what you needed to get you to your next awesome workout tomorrow. So stop beating yourself up. You did something. You broke a sweat and got your heart moving. You spent 20 minutes doing something worthwhile. You got up off your booty. You moved it. It counts.
So next time you decide to skip out on mega-challenging workout you signed up for when you were high on endorphins, contemplate shifting down a gear instead of bailing out completely. Hit the weight room or head out for a jog. Grab a buddy for a walk. But don’t throw it all out the window. And when you do take on a lower-impact workout for the day, don’t beat yourself up. You rule. And sure, there’s always tomorrow. But make sure to make today count any way you can.
MOVE YOUR BOOTY, people!

Em

MOTIVATION: putting in the work.

Big goals take big work. Even small goals take big work. And you need that push, that desire, that need to succeed pushing you every day. How bad do you want it? And how hard are you willing to push?
