MOTIVATION: running heals.

This is my dad, Steve. He ran a steady 2 miles every day of my childhood as long as I can remember. As a kid, I joined him on my bike or roller skates. There was no better way to spend father-daughter time. Eventually I began running, too. And haven’t stopped since. However, recently Dad has stopped. Mom died of cancer and MS five years ago. We’ve all been struggling to get back on our feet as a family ever since. One of the main ways I’ve been able to stay standing is through the power of running and my daily SWEATsessions. And all that is thanks to Dad. He showed me the super power within that is running way back when I was a kid. But now he needs to rediscover his own super power within. He’s been walking somewhat regularly, which is awesome—but deep down he’s been missing running. You can see it on his face. You can see it in his body. But he doubts himself—as we all do before an intimidating run.

But today Dad ran a mile. Today Dad found his legs again. He was “shocked” that his legs hadn’t “forgotten” how to run. I told him, “Maybe it wasn’t your legs that forgot. Maybe it was your mind that needed reminding.” My dad’s life may very well depend on whether or not he can find his legs again. We’re going to try to run again tomorrow. Because that smile can only come after a great and triumphant run. Nice work, Dad!

The power of running knows no bounds. How has running healed you?

MOTIVATION: MYB on the go.
No matter where you’re traveling, partying, playing or sunbathing this Memorial Day weekend, get your MYB on! Just because you’re away from your favorite yoga studio, gym, cycling class, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get your SWEAT on. Use your MYB time as a moment to calm from the crazy, get a great sweat in before you laze about or rock all night and explore your different surroundings. From runs on the beach to walks in the mountains, take advantage of a whole new running route or town full of workout possibilities—and maybe even bring a friend along!
Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, get your MYB on. Make it a priority. #MYBonthego

MOTIVATION: just keep going.
Final week countdown for MYB mayMADNESS! A lot can happen in a week. Even just one or two days of great working out can change your whole outlook. It can change how you feel, how you think, what you wear, how you walk and how you see yourself. Keep it up. Keep pushing. Keep trying to find your rhythm and get into your zone.
If the past month has been awesome and full of serious workouts for you, can you push yourself even that bit much further this very last week? If you’ve reached your goals can you even surpass them??
If your month has been tough and you’ve been struggling with your workouts, see this next week as a one week challenge. Give it all you’ve got. All that matters is that you JUST KEEP GOING. Until you stop trying, you have not yet failed. You could be one workout away from finding that workout that you totally love and can’t get enough of. Keep pushing. You can do this. By the end of next week, you’ll be happy you started this week.
JUST KEEP GOING! High-res

MOTIVATION: discover your WRKout style.
If you’re a runner, gym rat, yogi or or cyclist, you know what it means to find a workout you LOVE and just can’t get enough.
If you’re slogging through your workouts and hating it - the simple truth is you’re doing it wrong. Change it up. Find your style.
Lucky for us we don’t live it the 80s-tastic world of aerobics and thong leotards where the only options are either take a jog in your Nike “trainers” or join Jane Fonda in her leg-warmer-wearing high kicks!
We live in a currently fat, yet fitness obsessed society where there are, quite literally, at least 5 different kinds of workout options in a 10 block radius.
If you want to punch things there are at least 10 different types of gyms where you can do that in different styles. If you cant to dance around, there’s Zumba, hip hop aerobics, strip-aerobics, salsa dancing, the list goes on. Want to workout in your own home? Here’s PX90 and Insanity. Want to lift weights? Here’s CrossFit and 45 different CrossFit takeoffs you can do. Want to run? Long distance? Short distance? Track and sprint? Want to get zen? There’s hot yoga, fast yoga, breathing yoga, strength and power yoga. Want to join a team? Kickball? Dodgeball? Soccer? Pick up bball or football?

Boom, they all exist. All we have to do is try them out and pick one. Or pick five. Whichever.

In today’s world, there is absolutely no reason to do a workout you hate. Life’s too short. But the thing is, your life depends on it. #moveyourbooty High-res

MOTIVATION: your fitness fear.

What are you afraid of?

Failing? The minute you TRY you are succeeding.

Are you afraid that it will be hard? It will. Get over it. You’re stronger than you think.

That it will hurt? You’ll be sore. For a while. And then you’ll be stronger.
None of your fears are permanent. But your success will be something that no one can take away.

Face your fears head on. Sign up for the class/race/goal that scares you. And then go back for more.

MOTIVATION: don’t psych yourself out.
Yesterday I took a kickass cycling class @ SOULcycle in Union Square, NYC. It was freaking HARD. Even though I’ve been there before and knew better, I arrived at the class in less-than-ideal shorts. In fact, ANY shorts other than biking shorts for a cycling class are a ridiculous choice of outfit. I fully should have known better. It also didn’t help that despite assistance my bike set-up was all wonky and I felt like I was sliding all over the place. Again, could be the shorts.

My point is this! Ten minutes into class I felt like crap. I felt like I looked ridiculous, I had a serious wedgie, and I couldn’t let go and focus on the class. And I had a full HOUR ahead of me. Torture. This is a classic moment - I was psyching myself out. Everything else around me was supporting me to go forward and achieve. The music was awesome, my friend Talia was next to me soldiering through, the instructor was a take-no-shit warrior — I was the only one in my way and I had to get out. So I closed my eyes, let the music take over, stopped blaming my shorts for all my problems, just embraced the fact that my thighs were on full display (everybody’s got them, right?!) got over myself and powered through. The room was dark anyway! And I made it through class.

Are you standing in your own way? Are you the only reason you’re not succeeding? Don’t psych yourself. Get on board. Be your own cheerleader. And move in the right direction towards your goals.

PS - NEVER wear running shorts to a cycling class. Ever.
